About & Taiwan High Speed Rail

Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) is the high-speed railway system in Taiwan, operated by the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC). Launched in 2007, THSR connects Taipei in the north to Kaohsiung in the south along Taiwan’s western corridor, reducing travel time between the two cities from five hours to less than two.

THSR has become the backbone of Taiwan’s intercity transport, carrying hundreds of thousands of passengers daily with world-class efficiency, punctuality, and comfort.

Key Features:

  • High-Speed Operations – Trains run up to 300 km/h (186 mph).

  • Nationwide Connectivity – Covers 12 major stations across western Taiwan, from Nangang (Taipei) to Zuoying (Kaohsiung).

  • Japanese Technology – Operates trains based on Japan’s Shinkansen technology.

  • Convenience & Comfort – Spacious seating, free Wi-Fi, accessible facilities, and quiet cars.

  • Punctuality – Renowned for its reliability with average delays under one minute.

  • Eco-Friendly – Reduces CO₂ emissions compared to highway and air travel.

  • Digital Ticketing – Supports mobile booking, e-tickets, and smart card payments.
