No reply yetDear Marvel London, I hope you do not mind me reaching out with a deeply personal request. My name is Caroline and I am writing as the mother of Sophie-Jayne, a devoted Spider-Man fan in her 20’s whose love for the character has helped her navigate unimaginable grief. Three years ago this July, my daughter lost her boyfriend, Ciaran, affectionately known by many as the “Belfast Spider-Man,” following a sudden cardiac arrest. In those traumatic moments, Sophie-Jayne desperately tried to save him by performing CPR while experiencing a hypoglycaemic episode related to her own Type 1 diabetes. The trauma of losing the person she loved while fighting her own medical emergency has had a profound impact on her mental health and wellbeing. Despite everything she has endured, Sophie-Jayne continues to show incredible courage and resilience. Through her cosplay platform, Type1derfulCosplay, she raises awareness of Type 1 diabetes and uses her passion for superheroes to bring positivity and encouragement to others. For Sophie-Jayne, Spider-Man has never been just a character. Spider-Man represents hope, strength, kindness and perseverance. It was something she and Ciaran shared together and it remains an important connection to his memory. The release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July carries even greater significance for her, as it coincides with the third anniversary of Ciaran’s passing. What could be an incredibly difficult month is also an opportunity to create a new, positive memory while honouring someone she loved deeply. Attending the premiere would truly mean the world to her. It would be a chance to reconnect with the joy that Spider-Man has always brought into her life and support her continued journey towards healing. I would happily purchase two tickets myself if possible. However, I wanted to reach out and ask whether you might consider extending Sophie-Jayne the opportunity to attend as your guest with a friend. I understand that you receive many requests, but if there is any possibility of making this happen, it would be an act of kindness our family would never forget. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for considering this request. With sincere gratitude, Caroline Attached are photos of her and Ciaran. Her instagram handle is type1derfulcosplay where you will see she has even run as Spiderman for NI to raise money for chest heart and stroke. There are also pictures of her and him in cosplay costumes.
